We had a little time before the bus left, so we stopped at a café for breakfast. Our previous attempt at breakfast in Luang Nam Tha had been a disaster. We'd both ordered pancakes, which came out looking big and puffy - a good thing. Unfortunately, once Konrad started eating his, he began discovering some unusual ingredients. First, an ant. It was tiny, and was somewhat forgivable. Then, he found what looked like a bug's wing. I wasn't totally convinced it was until in the next forkful he unearthed an entire fly. Disgusted, we gave up on breakfast and left the place. But, we were willing to give it another go, at a different location - this one was supposed to have the best banana pancakes in town. Speaking of pancakes, let's be clear about the meaning of pancakes. Pancakes are like American-style pancakes: thick, a little bready, served with syrup, etc. Think Buttermilk. Pancakes are not thin, greasy, sheets of dough. Those are crepes. Crepes are French. Crepes are not pancakes. However, traveling through Asia, at some point, one will undoubtedly order pancakes and be served crepes. I ...
